A few recommendations when bringing your Cutest Bunny home:

When your Cutest Bunny arrives home they may sit and observe in their cage for some time (up to a few hours) before they begin enjoying hay, pellets, water and cuddles. This is their way of observing and getting comfortable in their new home!
We recommend 45 minute intervals holding your Cutest Bunny and then return them to their space so they can relieve themselves to ensure they know they will get an opportunity to go to the bathroom. We have practiced with them before they go to their forever home with intervals. By maintaining their training this will support your Cutest 
 
Bunny as they try to hold off on having accidents outside of their cage.
We recommend no fruit or vegetables until your Cutest Bunny is 3 months’ old when they can better digest the sugars.
When holding your Cutest Bunny support their back two feet to make them feel secure (rather than them feeling like they may be falling).
We strongly encourage a water dish for your Cutest Bunny cage to ensure your dwarf furry friend gets the water they need, as sometimes the water bottle requires more suction power then the dwarf bunnies can provide.

What do Cutest Bunnies eat and drink?

Accepted Answer

Main diet is water, rabbit pellets and hay.
Water
Highly recommend a water dish, rather than a water bottle as we have experienced issues with Custest Bunnies not having enough suction power to get the water they need due in the event of nozzle malfunctions
Rabbit pellets
Rabbit pellets primary ingredient is Timothy grass meal
Typical other ingredients in rabbit pellets are: Soybean Hulls, Wheat Middlings, Soybean Meal, Cane Molasses
Brands: Oxbow Essentials and Rolling Acres
Note: Choose the pellets without the coloured pieces that are added in some small pet foods for Guinea pigs
Hay
Preferably Timothy hay that contains more grass than Alfalfa hay which is higher in protein)
Cutest Bunnies often enjoy vegetables that are low in sugar, only after they are three months old and their tummies can better digest the sugars.

Are bunnies social and do they enjoy the company of other bunnies?

Cutest Bunnies love love love to socialize as they have been interacting with humans at a very early age! They love socializing with other bunnies as most Cutest Bunnies are raised with siblings. Socializing with your bunny daily as you watch a movie, relax and cuddle! Remember to share the cuteness with pics and video clips of your Cutest Bunny!
Bunnies love being in pairs and enjoy the companionship of another bunny! We recommend spaying or neutering if you are getting a bunny pair to reduce the risk of one bunny being territorial over the other once their hormones come into play.

Question 6

Do your bunnies come litter trained and how to I maintain the training?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Cutest Bunnies begin litter training before they go home. To maintain the training and assist your bunny as they transition at home, we recommend to buy a litter pan that is square (rather than triangular in shape). Purchasing a stable litter pan that does not move or tip is essential for success! Litter pans are to be filled with shavings or a rabbit safe litter that will absorb the wetness. Clumping cat litter is not safe for bunnies.
When transitioning your bunny home, we recommend a maximum of 45 minutes away from the litter box to start as they get accustomed. If you are watching a movie on the couch cuddling your bunny that is great, but don't forget to let your bunny have access to water and their litter to avoid an unwanted surprise!
You’ll want to limit their free roam space in the beginning to get them acclimated to their new area. Buying a puppy pen to confine them in one area is a good idea. As they are progressing in their training, you can open their space up more until they are fully potty trained. Then feel free to let them free roam with full access to their litter pan. If for any reason they start having accidents, retract their space again until they’re using their litter box. Some families have multiple litter boxes depending on how big of a space they have to run around in.

Here are a few other tips for those stubborn, “outside-the-box” bunnies:

If an accident occurs, wipe up the urine with a paper towel and pick up stray poop and place both in the litter box. This helps get the message across that the litter box is the place that they should do their business. Keep in mind that bunnies are generally not 100% perfect with their litter box. Sometimes they leave a few droppings next to the box, or they urinate over the edge of their box. This is normal, so placing a non-fibrous mat (that cannot be chewed) under their litter box or putting the litter box on a tile floor makes it easier to clean up these little mistakes.
Some bunnies take patience and extra time where some are very quick learners mastering litter training.
Bunnies pick a corner of their cage they usually like their litter. If the bunny is going in a specific corner make sure that is where you place the litter. Fun fact: some bunnies will even go in their food dish if it’s in the corner they want to call their bathroom! Cutest Bunnies generally like the top right corner of their cage for their bathroom.

Dimensions we recommend is equal or greater than:

Cage Bedding
Natural softwood shavings bedding is what we use to line the bottom of the cage
An alternative is to line the cage with newspaper or hypoallergenic coloured bedding that can be found at Petsmart, however we recommend lining the litter box with shavings for bedding
 
Litter Tray
Natural softwood shavings bedding can be used to line the litter tray that goes in the corner of the cage
You may also choose to use a different type of bedding in the litter tray such as the coloured bedding that can be found at Petsmart
Hutch
Hutches of different materials can be added to the cage to give the bunny a place to rest, especially if there is other pets at home
Ramps, Toys and Accessories
Bunnies often love ramps, wood blocks to chew of natural untreated wood, and hanging wood blocks with bells to play with.
Caution toys that have elements a bunny can chew and ingest such as cloth, string and rubber based toys or accessories.

Question 9

I read somewhere about an outbreak of a deadly rabbit virus in USA and Alberta. Anything to worry about in Ontario?

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious disease caused by a calicivirus that affects rabbits. RHDV is often a very swift and sudden killer, giving little warning. Rabbits may die without showing any symptoms at all.
 
Cutest Bunnies has been free from RHDV and is committed to not providing pet hoteling/ mining services to ensure isolation to avoid risk of RHDV. We share with a couple other rabbitries bunnies tips and processes that are RHDV free to ensure no other bunnies are brought to our premise.
 
This is a deadly virus that we are very very cautious about. We are thankful that we have a safe rabbitry and strongly warn against getting a bunny from a rabbitry that is not using top safety practices or that is out of province given the current situation. Notice: Updated June, 2021.

Is my bunny a boy or girl?

Gender is difficult to determine before 3 months of age.

Question 11

Do bunnies need to get spayed or neutered? When do most people decide?

There are health benefits with spay/ neuter and there are also risks to surgery with more associated with spay. Its you personal choice as a bunny owner. We offer advise based on our experience as we are not a professional veterinarians.
Many people opt to spay or neuter if they have more than one Cutest Bunny.
Most vets recommend 3-6months of age in my experience.
The cost I have seen a wide range and Guelph area usually comes in at lowest rates with Toronto highest.

Where do you get supplies and cages to prepare for your Cutest Bunny?

We do not recommend purchasing treats, donuts and seed based products for bunnies due to the high sugar content that can be difficult for dwarf bunnies to digest. 
We discourage leaving any soft plastic, cloth or fiber products in the bunnies space while they are unattended to ensure they do not ingest unwanted matter that could be harmful.

Question 13

What is your tip for introducing bunnies to each other?

If you are bringing home two Cutest Bunnies that are siblings there is no bonding required as they don't know life without one another.
 
If you have another bunny and are introducing it to a Cutest Bunny be sure to slowly introduce the bunnies together in a ‘neutral space’ or with a gate or cage first to see how they interact with one another. This allows them a chance to greet and establish the initial bond with safety. The younger the bunnies the more likely they will bond with ease. A bunny older than two that has formerly had a bunny partner often will wish to have another bunny as company. We have had success within our CB community of introducing a young Cutest Bunny to an older bunny that has lost its partner. Please inquire if you are hoping to do this as we do our best to get the best match possible.
Neutral space is a space that is not either bunnies home but rather a clean space (no harmful chemicals or cleaning agents) to allow them to meet without either bunny feeling like an intruder.

Can you recommend vets for exotic animals or bunnies?

Depends on the area you live we find outside of Toronto is where most of our customers go for lower rates.

Have you heard of other bunny homes getting pet insurance for bunnies?

Accepted Answer

We don’t recommend pet insurance at this time and have not heard of it commonly gotten for bunnies.

Question 16

Nail clipping - How often and how to do?

Accepted Answer

Recommend starting over 3 months of age with curled nail clipper as required (do not straight nail clippers for human nails, as you could crack their nails!!) 
 
Nail clipping is typically every couple months. You can use a natural block of wood for them to grind their nails too.
 
Deciding after 3 months of age to clip bunnies nails there is a risk that the blood vessels have travelled down the nail bed so please be very careful to avoid risks.
 
Some grooms and vets offer nail trimming services if you prefer. Most of our Cutest Bunny furrever homes simply do it quickly themselves.

Question 17

What fruit and veg can we or should we give our Cutest Bunny?

None until at least three months then I prefer you stick to leafy greens for treats. Fruit is high in sugar for the dwarfs tummies.

Do you recommend disposable absorbent pads, blankets or string toys?"

Accepted Answer

No, I don’t recommend as the bunny could chew and ingest without human supervision. Please don't leave in the Cutest Bunny space unattended to ensure safety.
